Visas

In order to pariticpate in this program, your clients must be able to qualify for a Young Workers Exchange, or Youth Mobility visa. These are exchange visas offered by Canada to citizens of the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Chile, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Latvia, Sweden, and Norway.

Visas range from 6 months to 2 years. In most cases, the age requirement is from 18-35, and there is often a study or work experience requirements.

You can learn more about the visas here.

While the details vary from country to country, the most important thing to know about these visas, is that in the majority of cases, applicants must have a job or internship arranged in Canada before they apply. And this is where we come in.

Programs

VancouverInternships has three programs:

Paid Professional Internship - this is open to university students in their third year of studies, or workers with 2 years of recent related experience. Students and workers must intern in their profession. We offer placements in Information Technology, Office Administration (incuding marketing), Bookkeeping, Hospitality Management - and starting in 2010 - Engineering. Interns work for a minimum of 6 months, and they must have Cambridge FCE level English at the time of application. Interns receive a living allowance of between $200 and $350 per week.

Unpaid Internship - open to students and young workers who have completed high school. Interns are placed with companies in dozens of industries, from finance, to marine biology. The goal of these internships is training. Placements can be from 4 weeks to 6 months.

Working Holiday - this is our Casual Work Experience Program - these are job placements at resorts, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, and shops in Vancouver, and around western Canada. Placements are done before your students arrive in Canada. The minimum term is 16 weeks, the maximum is the same as the length of your student's visa. Young workers usually make between $8 and $10 per hour.

Pre-Placement

Pre-placement means job or internship placement before your client arrives in Canada. Pre-placement is essential for Youth Mobility and Young Worker's Exchange visas - your clients may not be able to apply for these visas without a pre-arranged internship or job offer.
