This photo was done at the end of an interview we had in Railtown. Railtown is a neighbourhood just east of Gastown. It’s actually a pretty nice place, great views, nice park etc…
The student in this picture – Patrick – had three interviews today. The first was in the marketing department of a recruitment company, and the second and third were each in different marketing companies – both dealing largely with social media. He got two offers and will now spend the evening working on choosing between them.
In each internship he’ll do a combination of administrative support work like filing and scanning, and hands-on marketing work, like editing documents and photos, developing marketing plans, and building social media collateral.
The ellusive paid finance internship. Pictured above is Natalia from Mexico – this Monday, after taking a whole bunch of interviews, she will begin a paid internship in finance. She’ll work in an administrative support role with one of Canada’s largest brokerages. It’s an absolutely amazing opportunity – for the view if nothing else.
How do you get a paid finance internship? First you have to be in school. Next you need to have previous work experience, about 2 years of recent related professional experience will suffice. Then you need to have an advanced degree – accounting, commerce, or finance would do. Finally you need to have a great attitude – that means being flexible, modest, and excited about learning. Oh, and you should also speak English. Can’t stress that last one enough. FCE-level English or above is an absolute must.
Internship interview or hostage negotiations? You decide :
It’s amazing what bad lighting can do. This interview was actually really casual and friendly. The student (the guy on the left) passed – of course – and will be interning at the front desk. It looks like he will be doing a 3-part internship: 1 part at the front desk, another at a travel agency, and another during the Olympics, out at the venues polling people for their opinions on city services.
