Please check before applying to any program
You must meet all program requirements in order for your application to be considered.
Thank you for your interest in our internship programs. In order to participate in any of our programs you must meet ALL of the minimum requirements for that program. Unfortunately requirements are not negotiable, and if you do not meet the minimums, we will not be able to consider your application.
Citizenship or Visa Requirements
In order to join one of our programs, you must be able to work in Canada legally. This means that if you are in Canada right now, you need to be one of the following:
- Canadian citizen
- Canadian Permanent Resident
- In Canada on a study permit
If you are currently outside of Canada and are not a Canadian citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident, you must be eligible for an International Experience Canada Visa or, if you are American or British, a BUNAC visa. Youth Mobility Visas are open to citizens of: Australia, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malta, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Age Requirements
No programs are open to 'minors', so if you are participating in any internship or working holiday program, you must be at least 19 years of age on the date you will start your placement. No exceptions are made to this rule. We at VancouverInternships do not have an upper age limit - however there are upper age limits for Youth Mobility Visas (often age 30 or 35). Please see the visa page for more details.
Experience Requirements
There are no experience requirements for the Working Holiday Program. For the Student Internship Program, there are experience or knowledge requirements for certain technical professions such as information technology, architecture and engineering. Generally host companies will be satisfied if student interns have school-based knowledge of the required skill, and they seldom, if ever, require that students have actual work experience.
In order to qualify for the paid internship program, you must have practical experience in your chosen field. This can include previous internship work. There are two entry options - first you can be in your final year of university studies, or have graduated within the past 6 months and have some previous related or unrelated work or internship experience. Second, you can have two years of recent related practical experience, with or without an advanced degree from a university or college.
What to do if you do not meet basic requirements
If you do not meet ALL basic requirements for our programs, then we will not be able to consider your application. Unfortunately we are not able to make any exceptions. However, you may still be able to qualify for a work and study program with one of our partners.
Work and study programs are open to citizens of any nationality and give them the opportunity to combine a period of full time studies, with a subsequent period of full time internship or work experience. If this sounds appealing to you, we encourage you to contact them directly. Each school is accredited by Languages Canada or PCTIA, and each is well established and offers top of the line programs of English Language Studies:
